PICNIC AT KARERE.
A most interesting gathering m connection with the Karere Sabbath School; took place on Saturday last at Karere x where a picnic had b»en organised- for the children, teacheis, and friends. IVfr. Robert Linton kindly 'placed hi 3 paddocks, ftt the disposal of tlieeommittee, and any one acquainted with Mr. Linton'a homestead will oome to the conclusion that a better place, with its natural; beauties and facilities, for the thorbugTi enjoyment of euch a party, oould not have been offered. , The afternoon was spent with the usual amusementa m the shajaa o;f iawißgß, fouaders, boys' race 3, &\ Although the, weather, was extremely warm, the various games w^re entered io.to.- with remarkable enthusiasm. A move wag made for- tea; at about! 4 o'clock, ■ tha children forming a procession ■; and' 'piarchihg to the ' hoAise, where tea had ; been ; spread on ;tha gra/s under the, grateful shelter of . some, 'trees. m front of t.hehou«e, w!if>rea vote of thnnks was oalled for on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Linton for their kindness m providing such a liberal entertainment, and was responded to m a rig 1 it hearty manner, and stopped only to be roceived ngain when thanks were called for the ladies of the district, who certainly were indefatigable m doing all m their power to conduce to tho oomfort and entertainment of all present. Mr. It. Linton, as Supfirintenrlent of the Sohoolthen briefly addressed the children, assuring theiin of the pleasure it gave him to meet them on suoh an occasion, enjoining them, to he regular and attentive attendtinu to their school, impressing up:>n them the fact that nothing could be more conducive to their future happiness and; welfare, than the moral trainings receiver? there.* ,. Mr. Charles Collis, Mr. Gutbrie, Mr. V. Monrad, and :Mp. Russell also addressed them, after : which a hymn was sung, and.as the children, filed out of the gate, eacli one was presented with -a- email book and some lollies!
