FEILDING BOYS V. PALMERSTON BOYS.
The above match took place on Saturday, on the ground of the latter which was kindly lent to them by the committee. The morning looked very douhtful, but towards mid-day the clouds cleared away and a soft breeze commenced to blow. The Feilding team according to arrangement arrived »t •levpn o'clock by a brake, and the match commenced at halNnast eleven. The toss being -won by the Palmerston captain, heelected to put his team to the wickets first. Kroupa and Wright opened battle for " Our Boys," when the former was unfortunately cnught by Grantham on the second ball, and Wright soon followed aftor making a score of 1, being bowled by Grantham. Jackson and Dungan now faced fch» bowlers, and Jackson after making a hit to leg for 1, made a splendid hit for 3, when Dungan after adding 2 to the score was stumped by Nicholas, ETanlon following him for 1. Pnpper now joined Jackson, who, m the meantime had added 8 to his soore, and still continued to mount up, so that when Pepper was howled by Nicholas for 10, his score ftood at 23. Hoskings soon took Pepper's place, and after putting 2 together was bowled out by Keen, while Jackson added another 4to his soore. Itloyd was next m, but only for a moment or two, when he wns put out l.b.w.for lrun, Jackson putting 2 rhore together. Huntsr next took bis stand at the wickets, and made a good hit to leg for 1, when an. unfortunate ball fronr Nicholas scattered Jackson's stumps after ' he ndrled nnofcher 4 to his score, which now stood at 34. the highest mads by any one man m either team the whole day, and for which he was deservedly capped. ceeded m putting 2 together, Hunter making a good hit for 1, when the former knocked up a catch which fell into the open hands of Nicholas, while Dawiok, the lest mai., was clean howled for • duck-egg. This closed the'fir3t innings of the Palmerstonians which with the extras amounted Ho 72. • \, ! Tbe Ftilding boys now went m for their first innings, Foster and ; J. Belfit .being the first to at the wickets. Forster was caught out by Jackson after making.* stand for 2 Belfit being soon disposed of by Lloyd for 3"." "Nicholas and "Worsfold" were' now "together and seemed lo have it there own way .for a while, until a lucky ball from Jackson scattered the bails of Nicholas' stumps after a total of 9, the same fate being m store for Wo refold at the hands of Lloyd after adding 10 to the score. Gregory and Corkery filled the vacancy left by the two last men, but the latter was scarcely m when he was cauph out by Hanlon 'off Jackson. M. Belfit next joined Gregory and continued to work steadily together until the lnttet reached 24, at which crisis he was clean bowled by Jackson. Keen took Gregory's' place when Belfit who had put 9 together was bowled out by Lloyd, Keen being soon disposed of by Jackson for a duck«egg. Grant lmm and Aitken were the next two m, Grantham making a good hit for 2, when his partner m trying to steal run was run out with a duck-egg to his name. Robinson, the last man, took Aitken's place and succeeded m scoring 1, 'when a swift ball from Jackson found a weak spot m his stumps, Grantham having made another S, carried his bat out. After a short intermission for lunch the | Falmerstonians went m for their second innings, Eroupa and LloydJiandling the bats | first. Kroupa made a good hit for which 1 he took a rnn,but|injtrying to steal another, ara out Lloyd who' had not broken his duck- | egg. Jackson taking Lloyd's place com- | menced bringing op the score when Eroupa who had made 5 was howled by Seen. | Upon Hunter joining Jackson it was thought that some good play would be witnessed, but the former was unfortunately ■tumped by Nicholas after adding 3 to his score. Jackson and Hanlon, who was next m, were haying it all their own way, when I an unlucky ball from Nicholas again knocked Jackson's bails off after a total of 15. Ikmgan took the last man's place and after putting 4 together was run out by Robinson, i Hanlon following for 9. Pepper and Dawick were now together, but baring made one run and trying to take another he was run out by Robinson. Pepper being caught by Belfit, Hoskinga and Feasey faced the | bowling, but tbe former was no sooner m than he followed the fate of Pepper by hitting the ball into. Nicholas' hands. Wright ! being the last man, then wend m, and just I succeeded m breaking his sjrg, when Feasey haying scored 3 was clean bowled by Nicholas. This closed the second innings of the Palmerstonians which with .the extras amounted to 56. ' The Feilding team being a little behind the Palmerstonians m their first innings revolted to pull it up m their second, the Captain, therefore, sent Robinson and Worsfold first to the wickets. The former haying commenced the score by makings, : his partner was bowled by Lloyd after adding 1- to it. Nicholas taking Worsfold's | place added to the score m no time, when Robinson was caught out by Feaiey after making another 3, Grantham joined Nicholas, who was run out by Jackson, leaving another Bto bis score. J. Belfit went m next but soon parted company with Gran* tham, adding 3 towards the score. Aitken followed the last man, and mid«.t splendid hit for 3, followed, by another for 2, meanwhile G-ranthatn was stumped by Jackson, leaving 5 towards the. score. M. Belfit now joined Aitken and sent the balls all over the field, when Aitken, who made another run, was bowled, by Jackson, Keen his successor receiving the same treatment from Lloyd after: scoring 2. Gregory was next m but. Jackson scattered his stumps by the first ball, and Gregory returned to the pavillion withont having added anything to the score. Forster filled the vacancy and soon mounted his score to, 6, when Jackson clean bowled Belfit for 13 runs. At this time the score stood. . ■ PALMERSTON. PIEBT INITINGB.
