Messrs Travers & Son, This Company is formed for the purpose of completing the construction ol a Railway from Wellington to the Manawatu, to join the Foxton and New Plymouth Railway. The Government, have agreed to recommend to Parliament that certain works constructed by them between Wellington and Johnson ville, along the course of the proposed lino, with the land which they bad acquired for the purposes of the line, the materials for a bridge over the Porirua Harbor, and a quantity of rolling stock appropriated to this railway, with certain other conoession, including land that may be re-, claimed from the Wellington Harbor in the progress of the Railway works, should he granted to the Company, upon their giving a proper guarantee for the completion of the work. They have also undertaken to supply the Company with the ncsessary surveys and estimates of costj free of charge. From a preliminary examination of the country through which the line will pass, it ha.s been estimated that the maximum cost of construction and of the requisite rolling stock will not exceed £5000 per mile, and, therefore, taking into consideration the value of the concessions promised by the Government, the Promoters believe that not more than £350,000 of capital will Be required to be called up. It is proposed to raise at least £50,000 of the capital within the colony, payable as follows : — 2s 6d. per share on application, 2s. 6d per share on allotment, and the residue by calls not exceeding ss. per share, at intervals of not less than three months. The country which will at once be brought into direct communication with the city and harbor of Wellington by this line of railway exceeds 4,500,000 acres in extent, comprising the Porirua and Horoltiwi District, the large and valuable tracts of land between Paikakariki and the Manawatu . (including the settlements of Otaki and Fiteher-. bertj, the Manawatu, Feilding, Rangi. tikei, Wanganui, and Patea districts, and the rich and extensive lands within the Provincial District of Taranaki ; and looking to the facts that a very large extent of the above-mentioned country is already cultivated, and that it possesses iniuienoe resources which can only be satisfactorily developed when brought into direct commuication with Wellington, and, moreover, that the proposed railway must form part of the main trunk line from Wellington to Auckland, the promoters feel confident that tha traffic returns will, from the first, yield reasonable dividends upon the oapital expended, and that the line must ultimately become a very valuable one. The coihpany propose^ to ask for power to acquire the native lands between Otaki and the Manatvatu, through which the line will pass, and should this power b_e granted to them, tb.e promoters have reason to believe that the laud, when acquired, would speedily be disposed of for settlement at a profitable rate. In view of this, the promoters, are about to open negotiations with the -.Native proprietors with, respect to its acquisition. As the construction oE this, railway has long been considered to be of the highest importance-to the City of Wellington and the districts which will be brought into connection with it, the promoters trust that no litticulty will be experienced in obtaining the £50,0011 proposed to be raised in the colony. Should their expectations be realised in this respect, the company will at once be established, aud application made tc Parliament for the requisite authority tc carry out the undertaking. Applications for shares, in the form annexed, accompanied by a deposit as above, may be addressed to the Secretary pro tem of the company, aiid forms of application may also be obtained at any of the branches in the colony of the Bank of New Zealand. All deposits on shares will be lodged with the B^nk of New Zealand at Wei lington, to the credit of a special accou.nl in tk& nanxe of the Treasurer. Application for shares.
