DUNGAN. TO THE PUBLIC- OF MANAWATU. + - -Facts are stubborn- -things, while words are cheap, iu fact cost nothing. We might follow the silly example indulged in by some, journalists (?) and make a series of announcements that one week we had a circulation of 1000, the next 1200 ; the third, 1500 ; and so on, but would the public believe us. We think not. The Manawatu Times is now five years established, and for nearly three years was the only paper published -in the County, and although we admit— for _& would be nonsense to deny it — the advent of other journals at Foxton and Feilding has prevented the large increase in its circulation which the progress of the County would have given it, still its circulation at the present time is larger than before either of those papers came into existence ; and it has a pretty large number' o^ regular subscribers not ° n iy ' n those towns, but in Saridon Carnarvon, and on all -other outlying ioads in the County. As WjO before stated, we do not intend to make silly boasts for people to laugh at, but we say ..■.-.' . First, That the Times has a guaranteed number of regular subscribers one hundred and fifty to two hundred in excess of any, paper published in Palmerston. Second, That its circulation in Palmerston ie one hundred in excess of any paper published in Palmevston. Third, That beside it3 larger circulation within the Borough, wo give a distinct pledge to prove by our books, that we have yearly subscribers all along the Foxton Stoney Creek, and Rangitikei Koads ; the towns of Foxton, Feilding, Sandon, Bulls, Marton, and Wanganui, Fourth, We are prepared to take the numbers printed each issue for the past month, making a statutory declai'ation as to their correctness, if any other journal wil! do the same, and prove that we have a hundred and fifty of a majority in circulation. That i9 the way to let the public know which paper has a genuine, and which a brummagem circulation. If this challenge is accepted well and good ; if not let us then hear no move boasting which is as useless as it is ridiculous. We claim to have a genuine circulation — from year's end to year's end — distributed all over the County, and we are prepared to substantiate the assertions made above by allowing an inspection of our subscvibers' books ; we dare the paper which asserts that it has a circulation of four hundred and fifty to do the same, ■and if it can show subscribers to within any thing like a hundred and fifty of that number, then wo will give £5 to the Palmerston Hospital. piRATEFUL. — COMFORTING EPPS'S~~GOCOA.
