SHOCKING FATAL ACCIDENT.
- .--.. r .- AUCKLAND, Fbidat. ■■yjL painful accident has occurred at TotahIdlf'a, Northern Wairoa. A number of telegraph poles were stacked on the top of an embanknient, 'parallel with the public road. Five children were.plajm^ round the poles, two were seated under the bank and the other three were running rojhd, when one bfj them stumbled against the poles. Ths outside pole turned or*r and draopped down the bank atiking one of the children and hurting her ba,ck, and instantly killing the other, a fine' little girl, three years ,old, daughter of Mr. Saunders. At the inquest the jury expressed their opinion that the Government were to blam* for the careless manner the. telegraph poles were stacked. Had the poles' Keen on end to the bank all would hare been well.
