ASSESSMENT COURT.

Thursday, March 3, 1881. [Before His II >no- the Judge of the Assessment Court.] MANAWATU HIGHWAYS BOARD. Thomas Samuel Hoe, the clerk to the Boarl, upon examination by the Judge, stilted that when the valuation whs commenced th'-re were seven wards m the Hoard — where ts now there were only six — t-ach wird having a separate valuation book The Court was of opinion that the list could not upon that account be received, and instructed the Clerk to make a fresh valuation, he being appointed valuer. The Jud-re further stated that it would not be nccessarv to issue fresh notices, an i that all objections forwarded would be dealt with the same as if there had been no adjournment. The Clerk was instructed to have the new lists prepared aeainst the 2lst, and the Cosrt would sit upon the 7th of April. The lists of the five first wards were ordered to be left open for insn ction at the Highways office, and that for Kiwitea at Cheltenham for a fortnight, and the remainder of the time at Palmerston. BORODGH OP PAIiMEBSTON. Fritz Jenssen appeared to sustain an appeal against being rated for the Hoko•iti Reserve. He stated that with the exception of one hundred acres, of which he had a lease for nineteen years to run, he hal no land. Although at present ifc was thoroughly unremnnerativej he was satisfied to be rated at the same figure as similar sections m the town. The Bench accepted this offer, and reduced the valuation to LSO a year or ten shillings an acre. Solomon Abrahams applied to have section 302. allotment 32 transferred to Charles Walker, he h vinsr sold it since last year. Mr. Walker did not appear to oppose the application, and it was granted Henry Segars Palmerson applied to have section 967 transferred to T. W. Hjghes, the latter having purchased it There was do opposition raised, and the request was complied with. Henry Segars P-ilmerson asked 1 that section 966 should be s t ilown as the property of Alexander Dundas. As Mr. Dundas did not appear to raise/ an abjec* tion, it was agreed to. John Christian Richter asked that section 1091 should be transferred to William Graham. N"o objection ; granted. James Joseph L'*e objected to being rated for section 600, as he asserted that Mr. Linton was the landlord, and be was but a weekly tenant. The Valuer, however, explained that the applicant had since discovered that he was a yearly tenant,, although his rent was paid weekly, and the application would be withdrawn. vValter J.
