INGINRER'B BEPOBT.

Since last meeting 1 have been usually busy m preparing plans and qpecificttions for new works, as ordered by this Council on February 2 1st. KIWITEA BIDINO. Nothing dona m this riding, except repairs to roads. MANCHESTER BIDING. I have had the work of approaches to th« Stoney Creek school carried out. The handrails to bridges on the Makino Road are finished, bat not m time for payment this month. The roads generally are m very good order ; I hate had the roadmen engaged m straightening and widening the road between Feilding and Awahuri. TAONTJI BIDING* Roads are generally m good state of repair ; at the whoTo of the bridges on the Ranpitikei Line I have had fencing erec ed as wings to the handrails, which make the bridges much safer. I have prepared plan and called tenders for the additions to the Kawau Bridge, I find that 40 feet piles are required at this bridge as the ground is very soft. OROUA BIDING. Roads generally throughout this riding are m very good order, Messrs. Nathan and Diroond Bros, are pushing on with <h°.ir contracts — Monleith is also at work on Penny's Line, having cleared nearly all , of the scrub off the whote length of his contract — he has written to me a letter m I which he wishes to be relieved of his con- 1 tract on Waitui Road (letter attached). I have called tenders for the approaches to bridges on Speedy's Line and forming streets m Sanson, these works being satetioned at last meeting of this Council. KAWA KAWA RIDING. Matthews is at work on the metalling oh Sanflon Foxton Road ; I would ask thiß Oonncil to sanction the expenditure of nbout £20 more on the same road, this will complete th© patching of the worst partaon this road, and by having it done at oice Matthews will take the work at the sam* price as his contract. I visited Mr. Eraser's at Awahuri, and submit a sketch and approximate estimate of work required to be done through his property before road can be thrown open to the public. Mr. Fraser stated he would pay for bushfelling on his property, but on the Maoris property the bush must be felled by the Highway B-mrrt, a schedule of amounts of work is with sketch. On the district road leading from Hir.Hord'p Tnne I found a difficulty of how I cou-d call tenders for so small a sum as £25. T have, therefore, called tenders for three diverts, with approaches and formation ; and also for one culvert and about four chains of swampy foormation. Both of the above works are of great importance to the settlers np this road. AWAHOU BIDING, I have prepared plans and *peein>at'on« for the several works m this ridi g- lam sorry to say there has been some delay m the erection of the Awahon Bridge, but I believe it will now be pushed on speedily. I have not called tender" for work around race course, as aftetf examining the roai line, I found fences were erected acros said r^ad line ; I therefore consulted * ith C nn< illnr Kockstrow, who agreed with me that it would be better to wait till the railway was shifted, and get power to. use the old railway formation as a road. BRIDGES AND FKBB'EP. When I have visited them they have been m jpod workinor order. By Chairman's in9*rnc.tions, together with, Messrs, Harvey and Fallppo, \ tool* va^uat^a q{ foe projs

perty at the Lower Gorge F:rry, belonging to th.i Manawatu Oonnty Council tbe sai'i valuation I sent m to Mr. Qoo(Jbeh"re on last. Tbe valuation for Foxtan Perry I propose to take to morrow.
