THE MANAWATU RAILWAY.
At the general meeting of the provisional directors of the above company, held at the Chamber of Commerce on Monday afternoon, Jonas Woodward, Esq., m the chair, the following resolutions were adopted : — Ist. That the provisional directors of the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Company tender to Mr W. T. L. Travers their grateful thanks for his efforts to push forward the undertaking ; but regret that, m the absence of complete surveys, estimates of cost, and other important information, they are nnable to endorse his declaration made at the recent public meeting at Palmerston North, that the proposed railway would unite with the existing one at or m the neighborhood of that township. tnd. That the point at which the proposed Welling.-on and Manawatu Rail- j way shall unite with the Foxton-Wan-ganui line be left open m the mean time, and that the determination of the question at the hands of the permanent directors of the company be m favor of the line from Horowheuua northwards which, after careful survey and examination, shows the least engineering difficulties, which involves the least expenditure m construction, and which offers the greatest commercial advantages. Mr. Nathau and Mr. Shannon were added to the executive committee The amount already reported aa subscribed is £30,000.
