Solicitors. Messrs Travers & Son, Co-operating with local committees throughout the Provincial Dietrict. This. Company is formed for the purpose of completing the construction of a Railway from Wellington to the Manawatu, to join the Foxton and New Plymouth Railway. It is proposed to raise at'least £50,000 of the capital within the colony, payable as follows :— 2s 6d. per share on application, 2s. Gd per share on allotment, and the residue by calls not exceeding ss. per share, at intervals of not less than three months. The company proposes to ask for power to acquire the native lands between Otaki and the Manawatu, I through which the line will pass, and I should this power be granted to them, the promoters have reason to believe that the land, when acquired, would speedily be disposed of for settlement at a profitable rate. In view of this, the promoters are about to open negotiations with the Native proprietors with respect to its acquisition. The concessions which the Government have made, and other particulars, are fully set forth m the prospectus, which can be obtained from the Secretary, or at any of the branches of the Bank of New Zealand throughout tfce colon}', and to which is annexed a form of application for shares. Immediate application for shares is necessary. The share list will close on the 31st May, 1881. PRESS CONSULTATION. CHRTSTRHURCH GREVT AUTUMN HANDICAP, To be Hun for on \pril 18, 1881. ONE THOUSAND MEMBERS AT I A POUm First Horse , £300 Second „ , ... 200 | • Third „ 100 I Starters (divided) .. 100 Non-Startera (divided) 800 £1000 29 Nominations, 29 Awaeds. THE Promoters of the Press Consultation have dcci 'ed to innugurate a si-ries of £1 000 Drawings, the first, of which takes p ace on the above event. It is confident!}' anticipated that No. 1 o*' this Series will close about the 26 h of March. A satisfactory feature iv this arrangement will be that successful subsciibers will be m receipt of their good fortune so far m advance of the event as to enable them to again try their luck, should they desire to do so. Immediately .No. 1 is filled, the drawing will take place m a Pulic Hall (as usual), the result telegraphed to winners and posted 10 others, and No. 2 opened. . lly adopting this plan it will be seen that while the chances against subscribers are reduced, the awards to winners remain very substantial. It has been suggested to us by numerous correspondents to adopt the plan of dividing the money xmongst several events, known as the '"Oracle," hut when we. calculate the divifion of the money by that plan, and find the amounts for starters and nonstarters so very ini-ignificant, we have determine! to proceed upon a plan which will an far as possible reduce the chancea against and still make it worth while to be a winner. We would remind our patrons at a distance that while we have no objection to a good long letter, many of which we receive often, displaying li'erary attainments, it is not really neees.-ary to do more than to supply a correct address, with, of course, the necessary amount. Companies Bemlimf.for a ho k of 23 tickets will be allowed the usual agent*.' discount — viz., £I.' North Islaml subscribers are particularly r* quested In make early npitlication, so .is to facilitate the first drawing. Please send P.O. Order where obtainable, or cheque with Is exchange adder? and two stamps for reply and result. J. J. CONNOR, Tebasureb, <• Atmospherio" Printing Work« t Octagon, Dunedin.
