LONDON.
TUESDAY. A sculling race took place to-day at Southampton, between Edward Trickett and an oarsman named Kirby. The contest resulted m an easy victory for Trickett. "Wednesday. The executors of the will of the late Earl of Beaconsfield have declined a proposal made by the Right Hon. ,W. E. GHad stone that the fu- j neral of the deceased should be publicly performed. The will of the late Earl directs that his funeral should be of -the most simple character, and that Jiis-body. should be interred m his wife's vault at Hughenden. In consequence of the continued difficulty m the way of a settlement of the Turko-Grreek frontier question, the Powers have now made a proposal to the Governments of the two countries that a convention should be held under their auspices with a view to bring about a complete and final determination of the frontier difficulty.
