Although' tie results of their work for months has been not of a yery encouraging nature, we are pleased to. learn that the cloud with the silver lining is making itself apparent, andthe'hope*: of the shareholders are beginning to beat high. . On '-. Saturday ; •{ afternoon,; Mr Charles Anderson, oce of the prdspj-ctorat m the service ofthe Hit or Miss Company, came into taws' bringing with him some specimens- 1 of stone from the reef. A portion of ''this' was shewn to- w, and we unhesitatingly say that ikis the^only gold-bearing quart-, which .we. have seen comefroin the districts The stone was almost transparent white- with the specks of" gold embedded' thickly m it, and quite , disceruable to , the naked ey«. There was. as much' di£flr|nce between the^specU mens which we saw yesterday, andlhose shewn to us before,: as between ohalk and. cheese^.the former being of such an auriferous character as coWdMt fail tb Jconvince the most sceptical.
