A LTHOTJGH this office has been m _OL existence for a period of seven years, it is believed that the objeGts for which it was established are not sufficiently known or understood. It is desired to set forth m a concise form information respecting tbe business which this office undertakes: — j The Public Trustee is an officer spej cialiy appointed by the Government. j 1. To take charge of all kindsof money bonds such as Marriage settlements, moneys to be invested for the benefit of Minor-, moneys bequeathed for charitable objects, luiincys, the title to which is m dispute, or whose X gal owner is unknown, or cannot be fdutul, &c, &. 2. Toadminister the willsof all persons who by a pointing the Public Trustee as their executor secure the guarantee of the State for the due fu.film-nt of their wishes and avoid the risk consequent on tbe appointment of private persons as executors, who not unfrequently, though earnestly : desirous of acting for the benrfit of parties interested, fail to carry out legally tbe objects for which they were appointed, and consequently involve themselves and those whose interests they are strivi iig to pvotect m costly and harassing litigation. 3. To take one administration of all 1 es'n*es of which nn d!.*(><«otion has been iipide by will, whenever relatives do not wish to m ure the responsibility of administration, or cannot from any came obt-'iin the necessary powers to act. In sucb f-asis it is the duty of the Public Trustee to discbarge all legal lUbts so far the assets extend, and divide the residue amongst the next vf kin. 4. To take charge of, nnd grant 'ease of all lands lying waste and: unoccupied of which tbe owner is unknown, or who bas been absent from the Colony for ten years huving left no known agent.
