"LIBERTY" ASSAULT CASE.
CHTJISTCHUECH, Thubsdat. In the Resident Magistrates Courfc, ftig morning, John Kanson. Henry Blactett, and John Hosssct \ 1 were charged on remand with assault and wilful damage to property at the ; office of the "Liberty" newspaper. On the application of Mr St-.' : nger, the case was again adjourned to enable the parties concerned to settle the matter out of Court. The "Liberty" crise, aster an una.va:ru» aiterapt at a compiMmise, ended m the Bench fin.ing Hossack, t^o principal culprit, £5, and Vnclcett .and Sanson £3 each, and ordering each, man to pay £4i 4s 6d towards the cost of the type destroyed and : the damage done. The Bench added that, had it not been forthe able defenca made by Mr Stringer, counsel for the accused, the defendants would m all probability, have been committed for trial.
