The solemn silence maintained by the electors of Manawafu ns to the probable candidates at the coming jrcncial election, is even more tfa ; m nignificant. We were somewhat nonplussed at the extreme apathy exhibited at Foxton at the dismemberment, but the problem is solved —the representative of the Foxton District, would be sure 1o be a Foxton resident. Tn that case the elected for Manawafu would be either a Palmers ton or a Feilding mau — unless indeed our present member should once again " come do^vn like a wolf on the fold," and carry off the prize. It has been rumored, however, that Mr. Johnston will not go so far for a seat, and is to f?et one m the Empire City ; and the fact of a third membar being granted, may account for " the milk m the cocoa-nut." But to return to Manawatu, whoever is the lucky man, or the intending candidates, they have fully recognised ibe truth of the maxim about silence, and bidegtbeir time^to d«-, dire themselves,
