DEATH OF A VETERAN BISHOP.
"We notice from the English, telegrams, that Dr. M'Hale, the Archbishop of Tuam, has at last paid the debt of nature, after an active life of ninety years. The name of the deceased prelate has been prominently before Great Britain, for the last seventy years, and many a British statesman has felt the force and vigor of his pen. When the Ecclesiastical Titles Bill was passed, and an effort was made by Lord John Russell to prevent Catholic bishops from signing themselves as such, Dr, M'Hale waged a determined war with the British Premier aa earned for him the naroe of " The Lion of the "Fold of Judah.?' It would be interesting to know the number of prelates m his own hierarchy who have passed away, since John, Archbishop of Tuam — as he would insist upon signing himself — received his mitre.
