Fbidat. - The Campbell town settlers arc just new having their fill and to spare of election speeches. Last Wednesday Mr. France paid them a virir, Mr. Wilson bad bis innings last night, Dr. Newman Comes on Saturday (to- morrow), and Mr. Russell makes a second appearance on the 7tH instant. The meeting of Mr: Wilson's supl porters, which took place m the school-. j£ room, last night, was very well attended, >'jfft6m 80 tp»loobeinp present. Amongst other Messrs. John M'Lennan, R. M'Kenzie, John BeidJH. Sanson and a •prinkling of Sandjifn^pt'ople. Mr, Hunt occupied the cl mf. and briifly introlnced the candidate, whose address, a plain and apparently straightforward one, Tasted for an hour. It was merely a repetition,of those delivered elsewhere by Mr. Wilson, and embraced the usual topics, the land question, education, protection, construction of rail and tramways, confederation of Great "Britlin •- >n<i the Colonies, and the promotion of local ihdHstfies^ In connection with thet latter subject, the candidate explainec'l •the manner m which the bujter and eheesf manufacture was carried out m the United States on the co-operative principles, and urged upon his hearers the benefit they would derive by adopt* inga somewhat similar system and added that the: Hon. Robert Campbell had kindly offered to «s_?st them by erecting the necessary buildings to enable them to 1 carry out such a schemes. Attbc conclusion of the address, after a tew tnimpdrtant question * bad been answered, a resolution was moved, seconded. And carried, to the effect that Mr. Wilson and proper person to be their representative m Parliament. A vote of , thanks w*B given to the Chairman after which the meeting separated. The Exchange Store and Post Office lias been considerably enlarged and improved and the enterprising proprietor, Mr. T>ahl, has opened out a tempting display of new goods imported from Melbourne direct. The store is very appropriately named as here the settlers can get rid of their produce m exchange for such commodities as they require, or cash -i f they prefer it. Some of the locally-cured hams and bacon are a credit to the district m which they are produced and are quite equal to any of the Canterbury articles. lit is matter for regreat that the neat little school bouse, which was erected through the strong representations of Mr. Sanson at the "Education Board, shoufd be now closed through the want of a matter, the last one having resigned as the wretched pittance of a salary was in-sufficien-t to enable hfin to mainr_in bis wife and family..
