PROMENADE CONCERT AND DANCE.
In. the evening, at the Foresters' Hall, a prcmeuade concert and; dance was given, begining about naif-past eight. The mauaging committee were Messrs West and Fpwler, and those gentlemen carried out their duties most efficiently, the former 5 officiating as Ml C. The music was supplied by Messrs Jolly (violin) and Harbott; and: was m exceedingly good time. The haiLwas s-imply packed, the small charge' for admission, 3s for a gentleman an<f ladies (so said the advertisement), no" doubt being ao attraction to those who wished to wind up tbe day with a dance! During the round danct s, particularly, tlie.' sterner sex appeared to have all their work cut out to pilot their fair charges through the mazes. A Dumber of tion-lancer. watched the proceedings from the gallery, one shilling admission being charged Tb'that part of the house. Besides the dancing 1 quite a number 6f other attractions' were 'provided, prominent among which "may be mentioned two very comic songs, by" Mr Simpson, aud which were capically rendered, also two sentimental song, by Mr Ha"), which were given 'with considerable effect, also two comic songs by" Mj* Adsett, of Feilding, which brohght^own the house, and several card tricks and a comic song by a Mr Qgo.wther. "These, with other .terns'" we have not been'abte to learn, made a.number of "most pleasant breaks m the dancing. On the '•whole a capital evening's amusement was enjoyed by those who attended, and formed a mos!' pleasant wind up to the celebrations 'of New Year's Day. The committee are to be congratulated'tipon the way the affair was carried through.
