This little courtesy should be mads a notr of hy some of the other Clubs on the Coast. Towards the end the performers showed signs of wearing after the holiday, and there was a little bes<taney m some of the pieces. Otherwise the concert passed off very well; although somewhat hurriedly got up. As usual none of the. encores were re' sponded to, the fingers thus honored bowing their acknowledgments. Miss Atkinson accompanied throughout, and Mr Russell conducted. A nasty accident happened on th** Foxton racecourse yes*erdav. As the hack race was being ruti, and the three lending horses 'were galloping np the straight, a h •If. drunken fellow' coolly rode across the course. The riders and crowd called out to him, but be paid no attention. Notice, of Mo ion just got past, but Glorious' and' Gorsc, which wee running neck-aid-neck a .ifew lengths behind could not be got- clear, and Glorious an<i the horse ridden by the drunken (c ov who caused tbe accident collided. A crack was bead all an. und. and the tiwo horses fell m a h<ap, the riders coming off without much damage. Glorious was t>adly h< r about the near shouldi r, but the irl #r horse was killed outright It is su.lmposed that the crack heard was cau ed , by the breaking of its neck,
