Mary. Stephenson was my daughter. She is 33 years of age, and was married by Dr Staarfc to Timothy Stephenson ten years ago. There was three children by the marriage, one of whom is dead. Stephenson went to ""auranga four years ago to buy land, and he said that, if he came back broke he would cut all our throats. He subsequently returned, and k-->pt troubling his wife for money. She gave him upwards to £30 to keep him quiet. He visited our honse on Thursday, and wished to have a conversation, with my wife, who said she would have nothing to do with him. ' He went away, and I have not seen him since that time. Stephenson ueyer previously showed any disposition to act m this terrible way. When my daughter left home on the day of the tragedy she was m her usual spirits, and had nothing else* but her husband's conduct to trouble her. The occurrence took place about 80 yards from the residence of the late Mrs Stephenson. _,
