The tidal wave experienced m Auckland 4iarbpur just before the i last , ebb tide this morning, rose about 8& feet, after which reflux the wave was most felt m the upper reaches of the harbour. , : ' ; Wellington, August 29. The following telegrams have been j received by Captain Edwin re a | tidal wave: — Mongonui, 2 am.: "Tide still coming m and receding rapidly, but at longer intervals." Russell, 2 a.m. : " Tidal disturbances still con tinae." G-isborne,2 a.m. : " Tide rose three feet a-nd then leceded again j at 2 p.m. rose sud^ denly three feet, but did not go back." Lyttelton, 4 p.m. : '.'Tidal movement here from 7 to 9 this morning, rising and falling from 8 to 5. feet, going down .3 feet belpw low water line." Port Chalmers. 5 p.m. : " Unusual tide movement |: here from 11.3Qja.m. ,tp;3 p.m.,; ,At 1 p.m. the tide rose suddenly fifteen inches and i receded -same; minutes, and continued receding irregularly until 3 p.m.", Nothing of the wave was seen at the Thames. Christchurch, August 29. : Tja'st' night £nd this morning the waters of Lytteltou Harbour were ebbing and flowing in 'an 'exceptional ; fctiantiert About half- paste 10 (this morning men. working m the dock noticed the? water suddenly fell two feet and a half, it then being flood* itide: - ?At- halfapast 7 ;the water at Waterman's Wharf was six' feet :belpiw> the ftjspal low- water, mark, and one of the launches alongside took . the ground. The wfharf / at Parau is reported high and dry.
