Cheese and Butter Factory.
A well attended meeting of settlers was held at Karere school* house last evening, to consider the proposed cheese and butter ft.etory to he started m that district. Mr J. G. Sly occupied the chair, and Mr J. H. Mourad attended and gave a lot of practical hints. As no intimation was given to us of the meeting we are unable to publish an exK tended report of the proceeding*. We learn, however, that the meetiug; resolved to ask that Mr Bowron might be allowed to lecture m Palmerston on the subject of cheese and butter factories, this town being regarded as the centre of the district. Messrs Sly, Monrad, H. M'Ewen, Chieholm, Hitchings, Mowlem, and Wingate were appointed a committee to canvass the district, and the milk from 150 cows promised m the town. It is believed that at least another 50 can be secured. It is proposed to form a com pany of £3000 £1 shares^ and to call np half the capital. Tfye cost of the plant is estimated at about £1000. The tneeting was very unanimous m the matter, and when the committee have duly canvassed the district a further meeting will be held.
