The chief cause of contention between ourselves and Dr Hockstro\y m the fiVst place, was, whether lie had applied under section 18 of the Roads and Bridges Construction Act for the money for the tramway^ The G-overnmeut m their letters said the application was made under. secHou 18, but Dr Bockstrow said this was a mistake, and bo on, statements which we at the time refused to believe. What is the sequel? At Thursday's meeting, Dr Kbckstrow said, " Members of the' old Committee would, bear him out m saying they had been prepared; had the poll of the ratepayers been averse, to proceed under Clause 18, and construct the tramway against all comers." We have had to wait some six mouths for proof of" our beiug right m this matter, and here it is.
