Dhhing the twelve weeks of the session which ended on Saturday, 161 public Bills were introduced m one or both Houses ; 76 being passed, 1 other Bill being reserved for the Royal assent of Her Majesty, and 84 BHs failing to pass from various causes, chiefly want of time. The Lower House oi'iginated 137 of of these Bills, and the Upper House 24, these letter being mostly intron duced by (joyernmepf into the Upper House first for convenience. The Legislative Council's sittings were very short on the average, and were on fewer days than those oi the Lower House, wiiioii necessarily requires much longer lime lo gut through a given quantity of business, by reason of the greater tendency to discussion of principles and details. No less than 409 reports were made by Select Committees, mostly of the Lower House.
