Parliament was prorogued* on Saturday by commission, until Friday, 20th December. Before the prorogation took place a rather ex« citing sc«ne occurred m consequence of Mr Hamlin refusing to take a notice of motion for the first day of nex t session, given by Sh Gk Grey. The latter maintained the right of members to discuss matters up to the very moment of prorogation. In the midst of the confusion a message was received from the Legislature Council requesting members to attend the Commissioners, and the motion dropped. The motion was for leave to intros duce a bill to provide for the equitable settlement of claims to land by retired bailors of the Royal Navy, soldiers, or volunteers, for services performed m New Zealand.
