Resolved— That the Report be received and adopted, and that the ■ Town Clerk .be instructed |to write to Mr- .! Prendergast, requesting further explanation as to the statement that certain persona were to bo benefited at th.c expense of * others. The following is a copy pf the letter referred to above :r? p ;? Sir. —^ln reply to your letter ad» dressed to Sir James ,Prendergast, I beg to inform you qn his^behalf that he objects to the proposal, none of his sections are affected;by the river, and section 207 does not come within several chains of it, although the map forwarded by you to the Colonial Secretary shows it as coming on to the river. It is 'much* to be regretted that tbe Borough r Cpuncil should have based their application on an erroneous plan. I cannot be* lieve that the iVratepayers/pi the whole Borough will consent l be rated for the cost of the worlc which may injure many properties and benefit only a few persons who have bought their : land at T a low price m consequence ot its being subject to floods.
