CORRESPONDENCE.

(Onr oonecpoadenot polamn v being opea n*n*> ponsiblUty can bo acceptedia rwpect «C«d«is« IxpiMMd by correspondenta.} • . -^'*, "^^

To ihe Editor.

, , Siß.-rln your le&der of the 4th and sth, your comment* on the Borough Council^ . sitting m Cobb» mittee and excluding the Press are quite m accord wij% mine, and many other ratepayers. The secret and mysterious working of the Council of the past I have always .spoken against. We have. f disproof of tho past m the manner moneys have been spent, and the onesided way works have been done. I trust with the infusion of thj& fresh blood to see a change. Correspondence, Public Works Committee's reports, and Engineer's Reports, should be published m full. The ratepayers would then know at the time how their moneys were being spent. I will mention one or two works out of many where disputed, misunderstood contracts have occurred .«— Church street jrFitaherbert road, re ditches, contraot, Ac.,- referred to Public Works Committees. How settled is one of the mysteries. The footpath just now .being done m Fitzherbert road is ' anoth er. It is public money being spent, not a private company's, ; - ;: consequently there should be no secrecy about the Council's meetings. Mr M' Prendergast's reply of September 25th to the Council -stating his views, is correct . The ratepayers do not believe m being heavily taxed for the benefit of the cheap, specula* ti^g landowners. Boundary road to wit, wi^h its £951 spent on it, and not a house on it, but draining speculator's lands and flooding bona fide settlers' lands. \;\ Keform id needed before the'new loan is floated. T;he Borough should be" forn^e'd into Wards, S t»aeh -ward* having tija o\f4 representative ' to. wat(Jh over its interests. Much ••needed and important workVtlia't are now shelved would have a fair shojv. oi reepect and' attention. L/ • : ■•••;' :i m^ , ' Palmers^n N y Oei% X3B§, '
