The Daily Times. The oldest Manawatu journal Established 1875. THURSDAY, NOV. 1, 1883. A COLONIAL EXHIBITION.
Oub telegrams to-day inform us that it is intended. in the year 1886 to open an exhibition of the pro~ ducts. of the various British colonies m London, on the site now occupied by the .International Fisheries Exhibition. The fact that the products will be exclusively colonial will greatly strengthen the interest of these colonies m the affair, and the. emulation is certain to be very keen. A better advertisement for New Zealand; than this exhibition will present could not be desired. A judicious business man advertises m an established medium, and one which comes under the notice of people who want what he has to sell. We m New Zealand want population and capital. For these we have climate, resources, and pertain success to offer. ijow can we ; bring our wares under notice of the people who want them ? The easiest and best way is an exhibition m London, Jt js not a mere national " blow " when we say London is the centre of the world.. In,Dopulation,in magnitude; m wealth, m mercantile and political influence, London is the greatest centre of the world, nojtoriiy because of what we have mentioned, 'but be* cadse it iis'^Tielcapifol ,of an empire has colonies m: every quarter \bf tlje '.globje 1 , Hence -London is ; a wprld«pen^r,e af no other capital is. An exbiblifcion there will mean advertißing tbe poloijies before iHe world. In the keen competition that will take place, Newv Zealand, if properly represented, . will not belie the claims she makes to. be re« garded as the Britain of the South. Her magnificent resources, her picturesque scenery, her hot springs, V her numerous products, and her native popnlatiop, will all combine to lend an inferes'jfc to p^r Court, which, will bear comparison, and from which the very best results-^ jblje juflax of wealth and populationare WaiLy tff result. To achieve jbhese advantages a certain outlay 'will fee ji-eqnJLre^— Advertising always has 4 to m? Jja44 ff judiciously
