Past 6 of the volume of statistics of the colony of New Zealand for tbe year 1882 is just to hand from the (Toveroment Printer. From these we gather that the County of Manawatu, with a population m April, 1881, of 7,372, and inhabited houses to the number of 1,450, had a tttal revenue of £6,037 16s lOd, made up as follows :— From Government, £1431 7s 7d ; from rates, £3744, 9s 6dj other sources, £862 2s 6d. The receipts not revenue were £1,302 6s 2d. The expendi-, ture amounted to L 9060 5s 9dj made up as follows : — On public works (including Engineer's salary and expenses) L7,50D ss; charitable institutions, L 147 13s lid; management, L 1,157, 157 2s 3d; other expenditure, L 255 4s 7d. The assets at date .of balancing were L 5,473 Us ; liabilities L 5013 10s 6d. The following information is given m reference to the Borough of Paimerston North : — -Estimated aiea 4595 acres; population (1881) 1866 ; number of dwellings 400 ; number of ratepayers, 547 ; rateable properties, 1435 ; amount of general rate levied m the pound, Is ; library rate Id; estimated net annual value of rateable , property March, 1883 £18,500. Revenue for year ended 31sjb March, 1883— Bates LBIB 16s 7d ; rents, licenses $c L 484 10s Id ; other sources L 84 012 5; total rey~ enue L 2,148 18s Bd. The receipts not revenue were L 3,728 16s- 8d bringing the* total repeipts up to £5872 15s 4d. The expenditure j amounted to £5127 16s, made us as I follows:— Public Works £4,574 2s lOd; office charges £375 4s 2d; other expenditure £280 9s. The assets at date of balancing were £1,801 and the liabilities, including loan, 10,847, the amount of loan being £10,000 bearing interest at 7 and 8 percent. In tlbe J^lanawatn Road District, the number of dwellings is given at 850; latepayers 1,190 ; rateable properties 970; estimated net annual value of rateable pro pet ties £13,756 0s 6d ; amonnt of rate levied 1/?. Ud. the expenditure was as follows — on public works, £1472 16s 7J ; management £9.1 8s 4d ; other expenditure &112 19s 6d, making a total of £1,677 4s sd. The liabilities at date of balancing were £817 18s 3d.
