At the last meeting t , of ths Hutt County Council, a letter was read from Mr W.-T. h. Trayera, who wrota that he was instructed by the directors of the Wellington and Ma* nawatn. Railway Company to inform the Council thai; the crossing ' of the Hutt»road m respect of wlacH cdrrespondence had taken , place. wsis jden cessary for the works on the J raajtway, and that any attempt on the part of the Council to interfere with it would be resisted. The Council, of course, were at liberty to take any steps they (pleased to establish, if they could, that > the crossing, as used, was an obstruction to traffic to an extent unsanctioned by the Act under which the company was carrying on its operations, but Jhe company denied that thig wag,. the case, and had required their contractor to maintain the crossing m such a manner as not to impede traffic, Under the circumstances, theeompany would hold the liu# County Council responsible for any Jobs or injury it might sustain by ibteritr* ence with the crossing m question. Some discussion ensued, biit ho -action was taken beyond resblviig *' that the letter be received."
