(Per Press Association.) j t|_ . Auckland, Nov. 14. Sir George Grey lectured on Federation and Annexation to-night at the Theatre Boyal, to "~* crowded audience. Senior Councillor Waddell presided. Sir George Grey . was enthusiastically cheered on coming forward to address tie meeting. He realated what; he had dwie- in' forty years ,to get for New Zealand control over certain islands m the South Pacific He thought the present Conference took place under unfiappy, auspices, as tbe representative should have been elected by a vote of ib& r wbole colony. Tbe people should claim that nothing be agreed to on their behalf till the proposals were submitted and again referred to, the decision of the ballot box. They should m^jti cardinal points m any arrangementcome to : First, that they' should htveitKe exclusi?© r^fhf of dealing with Witters' within the limits of the colony ; secondly, of having something to say m the counsels of the empire ai to their relations with meighboring islands; and thirdly, that no colony or portion of the empire should be surrendered without its being done by act ef Parliament. Tole,M.H.lt M moved( and Mr T.B._ Hill seconded the following. resolution:— That this meethearty thanks to Sir George "*tfrey for Hs able and eloquent address on ! federation and annexation, aiad is of opinion that the islands m the Pacific Ocean ■hoald not be made receptacles for convicts of any nation.
