The Manawatu Race Meeting
We have to congratulate the members of the Manawatu Racing Club upon the growing popularity of their annual meeting, as shown by the large number of nominations received .on Saturday evening. It was confidently anticipated tbat the success of last year's meeting would have a benefical result m this direction, but the extent to which the numbers have been swelled by the nomination of horses well known on the turf has caused a feeling of pleasurable surprise. As will be seen from our report elsewhere, the nominations forthe M.R.O. Handicap nUmber no less than fourteen, for the Flying Stakes twenty-one,and for the Handicap Hurdles'fourteen. - From) the rapid increase' it is evident that as Palmerston is destined to become the commerbial centre of 1, tht wholedistrict, so its race meetings ♦wnl also be the chief sporting events on the Coast; ,( It is only a question of time aud judicious managemennt on, the part of the Club. We have' little- doubt that past success will be more than maintained at the forthcoming meeting, and that the general entries will also show a large increase.
