The Grounding of the Triumph.

Per Press Association. Auckland, Nov 30. The steamer Triumph struck on the south-east side. of Tiritiri on the fairway for the lighthouse. She is on the rocks at the foremast water, tight compartment. There are twelve feet of ■water m the compart* ment. supposed there is a hole through Her; It cannot be ascer*tained yet, but it is believed she can be got off, having gone on four hours after ebb tide, seventeen frthomas astern. The crew are now shifting the cargo aft, m. the hope that Rhe ■wiU^float, There are seventeen feet of "water abaft of the fore-rigging, so that she is hanging by the bow. It Was a clear night, though dark. The pilot left her outside the; jßangitoto at 9 o'clock, and gave the captain the course; The steamer was going eleven knots, and struck very heavily. No light has been thrown on the cause of the disaster as the course should have taken her miles away from Tiri, and the lighthouse was right ahead of where she struck. The captain was on the bridge at the time. A vessel has been chartered to go down and take off the cargo, which comprises^ a quantity of railway iron from London for the douth, 1# bales of wool, etc. TneTriumpH is 1,^67 tons register, and was built m 1880. >^ <;■■':■.
