Attempted Suicide at Wellingtbn.
; A strange attempt at suicide was made last evening. A man named Robert Muir, who had been liquoring up too ardently iri connection with New Year, and "is supposed to have been suffering firom delirium tremens, wps seen by some boy's to wade into the harbor hear the bottom of Cuba-street, ■ about halfpast Fix last evening. The boys did not exactly understand what ( aile ithe qneer man. but they thought it great fun to w;atch him go into the water, till it reached nearly to his neck, and then flop about with his clothes on. They had a notion he .ould not be right m his, hand, and the attention of Constable Slight was called to the aquatic periormer. The constable had some,, trouble m getting the man to leave the Water, for he seemed anxious to himself, and held his head under water several tiroes, though not long enough to do' the deed. The con** stable at length persuaded#him to leave the water, and then arrested and locked up on a charge ot. attempting to commit STtis:de T . After being put into a cell, the man seemed to be laboring under deli* rium tremensy and Dr Hutchison, who examined him, will give evidence before the Justices to-day aa to the man's mental condition. After being put m the cell, the man asked, " Is there anyone here to take my statement P The society told me I was to dro-rn myself." -N.Z. Times.
