UDVERTISINGi l - mm g \keystone/ WcESs,/ [__ vertisement. \ From Monday's Manawatu Daily TimesOUR ALMANAC. + . With this issue we present to our subscribers a sheet almanac and calendar for 1884, which has been made an entirely local affair. The calendar has been compiled at considerable trouble, and will be found to contain the dates of the princ pal stock and horse sales hela m this portion of the district, the days of meeting of the various public bodies and societies, and other information of value to residents. It is deemed that information of this kind I will be of far greater interest than the usual plan of chronicling events that happened hundreds of years ago, and which are of more importance to the historian than the husioess man. The time table for the incoming and outgoing mails via San Francisco will also be found m the Almanac, We may mention that the information m regard to- this was very courteously supplied to us m advance by Mr W. Gray, secretary to the Postal Department. Wellington, to whom we take the present opportunity of expressing our thanks. The Official Directory has been carefully compiled m order to be perfectly j reliable, and we have no doubt it will be found serviceable to both the town trades-* man and country settler. The Traveller's Guide contains information as to the timeß j of departure ©f coaches for Napier, Wairarapa, &c, and of the trains for Wanganui j and Foxton. A list of the railway fares charged is also published, wtiich should be found convenient for reference. Gn another portion of the sheet will be found a list of the Ministry as at present constituted, and other interesting items, including details for guidance m the ease of registration of Births, Marriages or Deaths. A scale of the Postal and Telegraphic charges m force is also supplied. From the foregoing it will be seen that no effort has been spared to make the sheet as useful as possible, and we have no hesitation m saying that as, a compendium of local and general infoimauon it will bear comparison with any sheet almanac issued throughout tbe Colony. It is noteworthy also that this is the first thoroughly local | almanac, as well as the largest and best that has ever been issued m tbe district. It is '-full of local information and has been compiled and printed locally. In this connection we may remark that our local tradesmen and others quickly perceived the value of the almanac as an ad ver** tising medium, as may be seen from the number and variety of their announcements which appear upon it. We have to thank them heartily for the support they have extended to us m the mattef,"*anu..iii*'t next year to be enabled to do them even better justice. We may mention that to-uigh't this -sheet will find its way into the hands of considerably more than 1000 readers,. and we have no doubt that owing to the valuable nature of its contents the majority will preserve ie during the year upon which we are just entering. Turning to the advertisements themselves it will be found that they also are purely local. The drapers and clothiers represented are Mr J. B.
