Baron MacLeay, the New Guinea explorer has addressed a letter to Lord Derby, Secretary of State for the Colonies, urging the British Government, if it should decide to annex New Guinea, to respect the rights of the natives and expressing fears that an attempt will be made to kidnap there for the lahor trade. Melbourne, Jan 3. The agricultural reporter of the Leader estimates the present yield of wheat m Victoria for the presant season at 14,900,000 bushels, being an average of 14£ bushels to the acre. The quantity available for j export is estimated at 8,150,000 bushels. ; Adelaide, Jan 3, The revenue returns show a large falling uff m receipts from several somces. The Customs dues are expected to be L 40,000 below the estimate. The revenue for the year ended 31st ult, amounted to L 6,480,000, a decrease of L 942,000 compared with that of 1882. During the |year the revenue from land decreased by L.1,040,000. London, Jan. 2. The Queensland revenue for last quarter amounted to £646,000 an increase of 1/39,500 compared with last quarter of 1882. The increases are chiefly m customs, land, and railway revenue.
