THE GERMAN CROWN PRINCE IN ROME.
The Crown Prince of Germany of Germany paid a visit to the Pope on December 18. He was received with great cordiality. The Prince was visibly affected, and expressed m che name of the Emperor, his gratification at being able to manis f^st his respect for His Holiness. The private conference la.si^u one hour. Later m the day the Prince received all the Italian dignitaries, and left on his return home the next day. Mpniteur De Home says this Tisitis the outcome of Bismarck's project for federating the conaerva* tive forces against the audacious de« mocracy, and .the place of honor m the alliance nad been assigned to the Papacy, as first m influence m the world." taa i Liberta objects to this view of the case and trusts the significance given to the visit by the Moniteur, the Papal organ, will be diaayowed, m Berlin. A Router's despatch asserts the visit was simply one of courtesy.
