Eeuter's Telegrams. Sydney, Jan 18. Arrived this morning P. M. S. Australia from San Francisco via Auckland. Sailed, tiiis ovening, Union steam* snip, Haarotofo" Auckland. The ateamer, Lismore, 339 tons, has been wrecked at Ballina at the entrance of the Richmond river, 330 miles north of Sydney. The passengers were saved. The insur* ance amounts to £10,000. London, Jan 18. President Kruger of the T ansvaal, has suggested a compromise m the matter of modification oi the Transvaal frontier line as proposed by the British Government, m order that certain native chiefs might be afforded the protection of British rule. A sum of-je300,000 m gold has been withdrawn from the Bank of England for Australia and it is expected that further withdrawals will shortly be made. Albany, Jan. 19. Arrived yesterday, in King George's Sound, the P. and O. steamship Bavenna with the mails which left London on Dec. 14. Madrid, Jan 17.
