Assault on a Salyation Officer.
Per Press Association. y'y-- Oamaru, Jan. 17. Thiecaptain of the local Salvation Army was assaulted at the door of the j barracks last night, as the services were about to commence, by six or seven young rough?. There has been a sort ofiH-feeling oa the part of the roughs towards the captain, and it culminated last night man attack on him. The police arrested one of the assailants, and he will be brought up »t the court to» morrow, and some peculiar disclosures, it is said, are expected to be made w-.en the case comes on. Oaraaru,Jan. 28. The charge acainst a young man named Ward for assaulting the Salva ion Army captain <ras beard to-day at the Eesident Magistrate's Court. The evidence was confined to the assault, and a good deal of it was of a contradictory nature. The defendant was represented by* counsel, and the case occupied thy Court all day. The Magistrate inflicted a sentence of three days' imprisonment.
