The Railway Bridge at Longburn.

Substantial progress has been made with the railway bridge at Longburn. Twelve of the piers have been completed, and another is well advanced. Two more, m the stream, remain to be driven, and when these are completed the superstructure will be rapidly placed m position. The superstructure is al» ready virtually completed over eight, piers. The parts that are completed are massive looking, and substantial. Men are engaged on the formation of the approaches to the bridge, nine carts being employed at the work. The earth used is sandy, and therefore easily moved* The three small bridges between the Fox ton railway line and the bridge are also well advanced, and the formation is almost ready for the rails, "he first portion of rails arrived andthe platelaying willjshortly begin, fchis being a part of Mr Wilkie's contract. It is expected that the bridge will be sufficiently completed for use m four rmnfchs, by which time it is hoped trains will be able to run from the Foxton line to the Fitzherberfc side of the bridge. The bridge contract is likely to be out of hands m about six months. Mr Wilkie is making rapid progress with his contract for formation and platelaying- on the Fitzherbert side of the bridge.
