Palmerston School Comittee.

[ The first ordinary meeting of the above Committee took place at the Schoolhouse, last evening, at 7.90 o'clock. Present —Messrs Leary (^Chairman), Hawkins, Woodroffe, Stewart, Russell, and Rev Mr Wright (Secretary). Mr Geoi-geLattended later m the evening. The minutes of previous meeting 'vere read and confirmed. If was arranged tbat all motions should be formally moved and seconded previous to be entered as carried m the minute book. A letter was read .from JHonoria •Jackson, app'ying to be Wppointed a pupil teacher. It appeared a letter had beeu received from the Board, stating that the school was entitled to an additional pupil teacher, and Mr Watson strongly recommended Miss Jackson, lt was pointed out that the late Committee said the scbool was greatly under-officered, and this being the case it was suggested that the better plan would be to ascertain if the School was not entitled to an assistant teacher. It was also pointed out that if appliea* tions were required for the appointment they should b 5 invited gene-* rally. The following resolution was passed: — That the application of Miss Jackson be held over until next meeting j. iand that, the Chairman, Mr Hawkins, and the Secretary be. authorised to consider the teaching power of the School, and apply for whatever increase the school is entitled to,— if only a pupil teacher, the Sub-Committee to invite applicatiohs in.the way they think fit, m time for. nextmeetiner." " '"'-■- A lengthy discussion; took place regarding the proposed;: scbool at Terrace Eud. — Mr Hawkins suggested that information should: be obtained as to the number of children likely to attend, before anything definite was done.— Mr Rnsiell said o^ing to the scattered nature of the town a school was required not only at End but also down the Foxton line, a large population being m that vicinity.— Moved by Mr Hawkins, seconded by' Mr Woods roffe, "That the Secretary write to Mr Snelson, enquiring what has been done by the Board regarding" tbe School at Terrace End, m pursuance of the resolution passed by this Com* mittee on 15th November." ■ It, was resolved, "That the Secre* tary procure from the Board two copies each of the Act, the ..Board's rules anl regulations, and tho Board's last annual report. ' Mr Hawkins asked if the report and balance sheet of the late com* mittee had been sent to the Board. — The Secretary said they h)|d been held over pending the arrival of the Board's Auditor,, Mr Wagstaff. — Mi* Hawkins wished that- placed on record m ca.*o thi? It was stated the preseut cost of clearing was £36 per annum.
