The Governor's Visit to the West Coast Sounds.
») ' i Per Press Association. - 'Wellington, Feb. 10. 'The Hinemoa, with his Excellency and party on board, arrived here last night from a visit to the West Coast Sounds. The following are the particulars of the trip:— The Hineinoa left the Bluff at daylight on the 27th' January. Those on board were his Excellency the Governor, Lady Jervois, Misses Jervois (2), and Hadfield (2); Bey. Mr Jervois, Major Cantley, DrHector, and Major Eccles, Aided&Camp. After leaving the Bluff the Hinemoa washeadedfdr Sfewart's Island 'tijid Patterson Inlet, andports AdveftfQre 1 and Pegasus were visited in^tlie' order named. Xi e*ach of these'|K)rts his Excellency and Major Cafitley went on shore, arid made a minute examination of several points; m-ttie 1 various harbours. This examination was finished on the same day as leaving thie Bluff, and on that evening the Hinemoa's course was shaped for the West Coast Sounds. She arrived at Dusky Sound on the morning of the 28th. It is understood that the nature of his Excellency's visit to the Sounds was not so much for pleasure, but that the Sounds would appear prominently m Jhe report to be made of the defenced of New Zealand. Above four wet days were 1 met with on the trip, and while m Milford Sound Dr Hector put out the guage, and the ranifall for 20 hours registered nearly 11 inches. It may be mentioned that from the 14th January, when the Hinemoa left Wellington, until her arrival last night Lady Jervois never left' the vessel.
