The rest were m a bunch, with Hinemoa lying last. They were m much the same positions coming past the stand for the first time, except that Hinemoa and Ahua had closed up to the second rank of horses, and Ringleader had fallen back last. On rounding the top turn Ahua and Hinemoa began to go up, and gradually improved their positions down the far side, Waiauareka having fallen back. Dusk and Blue Gown stnck well to the leaders, and as the bottom turn was reached Buzzard oegan to work up. At the commencement of the straight the whips were out on Ahua and Buzzard, and Blue Gown, who was ridden from the half-mile post, also made an effort to get on level terms with Hinemoa, who had assumed the lead. The mare however was able to stave off the rush, and came m without the whip a length ahead of Ahua, who had Buzzard well on his quarters. Blue Gown was fourth, a length behind Buzzard. Dusk seemed to be goiug strong, with a good lead, but at the bottom turn Administrator and Libeller went up, and it looked almost the latter's race. Before entering tha straight, Witiora, who had been lying List, came with, a great rush, collared the leaders, and looked like winning hands down.
