DUNEDIN.

March 10. J A public meeting was held to-night convened by the. Trades and Labour Council, to consider the decision of the; Land Board m the dummyism cases, ; m the Waikouaiti district. There vras a large, attendance, and thorough -unanimity. The resolutions adopted were to the effect that the meeting viewed with regret the action of the Land Board ;. that the Minister of Lands be asked to vindicate the law ; and that the Government be recommended to reconsider the Board's, resolution. A vote of thanks was also passed to the minority of the Board m the matter. Mr -M. W. Green further proposed a re- ' solution m favour of leasing, instead of selling, lands, and thanking the Minister. of Lands for what he had done m this matter ; also for his general administration of the land laws. ' This was earned. A meeting of shareholders m West Coast mines was held to-day for the purpose of considering the advisabilty of closing non-paying mines, A Committee was appointed to report what mines ought to be closed ; the report to, be presented to a meeting next Saturday. March 11. The Freethought Conference sittings are on here at present. Mr Stout has been elected President, Mr Ballance, of Wanganui, Vic^Presidont, and Mr Farnie, Secretary.
