April 4. In the Supreme Court, O'Brien, father and son, were sentenced to six months for assault, and George Daverel to 12 months for forgery. The charge of rape against Henry Goodward is proceeding. April 5. An English Syndicate has purchased 40,000 acres of land at Taupo for £82,000. The negotiations were conducted by cablegrams, which alone cost £750. April 6. The flags were flying "half-mast yesterday, the date of the burial of Prince Leopold. The Japanese warship, Tsukuba, had her flag halfmast. Hairy Goodward was found guilty of the rape of Ellen Payne. Sentence was deferred. There is no sign of the mail. This day. Goodward, found guilty of rape on ■ Ellen, Payne m the Domain, has been sentenced to 5 years, and two floggtngs of 25 lashes each.
