Fire m Palmerston.
At about a qua ter to two yesterday morning an eight roomed house in Cuba Street occupied by Mrs Coleman, was totally destroyed by fire. M Thomas Bush, who resides about a chain from the scene, was first awakened by the screams of the children who had escaped from the burning building and we calling ou [illegible] flame had such a hol that he saw his single endeavors would be useless, and he therefore proce ded down George street calling for assistance. Messrs Vivian, B[illegible]y, Jordan and and others soon responded to the call and were enabled to remove a considerable quantity of furniture &c. from the building. We under tand that no cause can b assigned for the fire. The building was insured in the New Zealand Office for £250, and the furni ure f r 150. As usual on these oc asio s a nusnber of rumors are flying about and it is probable an enquiry will be made.
