April 25. Fears are entertained as to tbe life of Mr H. J, Tancrcd, Chancellor ofthe University, who is seriously ill. Yesterday evening a child named Ann Jane*Carr, 8 years old, was found by its* mother lying insensible on the:-' road- near its liome m ColomboNStreet North. It died m about two hours",' The medical examination of the body showed that tlie brain had beefl- -injured apparently by a wheel passing over the child. An hiquest*wtls held to-day, but no evidence waft elicited as to how the njnry had been inflicted, and the inquiry was adjourned for a week.
