Tho debate on the Np confidence motion' wa-j resumed by Mr Shriinskf who' charged' the Government with • ha\ ing passed ' the Roads and Bridges Construction &ct, well knowing they could not raise the money provided for under the Act. The Government had favoured the Bank of New Zealand by giving it a large sum on fixed deposit,^ out of the insurance fund, at. -5 per cent., whereas they charged the- local bodies 6 per cent, on money required for per man* ent works. Messrs Ivess, J. W. Thompson, Smith, and Wakefield spoke m favor of the motion,, and Messrs Hursthouse, Moss, and Conolly against.
