Augnst 11. A cat show was held to-day m | connection with the Industrial Exhibition. There were forty-three entries. The prize cat weighed 161 b. At Queenstown to-day, the defendant m the Lake Hayes, was fined L2O and costs, L 8 12s. His Worship, m giving judgment, said he regretted that only a poor man had been caught. The evidence showed that dynamite had been used evidently for the purpose of causing a disturbance amongst the fish. August 12. All but three of the principal suf.ferera by the late explosion of chem* icals at Milton are out of the doctor's hands. No further hope is enter* tamed of Mr James Keid ultimately gaining the use of his eye. In- the other two case.*, Mr Strachan's son and Mr Jones' daughter, there is as improvement m the perception of light m each case, and it is believed they will be fully restored to sight.
