August 12. Arrived, at Plymouth — Steamship Doric, fiom Lyttelton, July 4. A fire occurred torday at a hatter's shop m Pimlico, -7 and caused the death of lour persons who were unable to escape from the burning building, Wo others leapt from the windows and were seriously injured. The third of the year's series of colonial, wool auctions was opened to-day before a. large attendance of home and foreign buyers. The open* ing catalogue comprised 8.700 bales, for which a fair demand was manifested, cross-breds ruling rather higher than at the close of last auctions. The quantity of wool to be offered during the Series is limited to 334.000 bales. The sales will close on September 18.'' » '•_* August 18. A terrific thunderstorm passed over Scotland yesterday and much damage was done to property m path of the storm and several persons were killed by lightning, Lord Lauderdale who was. out shooting during the storm was struck by lightning and now lies m a precarious condition.
