Per Press Association. i Wellington, Sept. 1, In tbo House this afternoon, Mr Stout announced the appointment of six of the Ministry, and hoped within a few days to have the other two positions filled up by North Island representatives, and probably one of them from the Auckland district. He intended to ask the House to appoint a special Minister to take charge of mining business. Ho hoped there would be no further delay, bai that the House would proceed at one* to business. They found it was impossible this session to make any alteration m the mode of taxation, and this would have to stand over until next session. Tbe otber matters m the Governor's speech would be considered this session. Tbey intended to ask the House to appoint a Select Committee to consider the North Island main trunk railway route, and on such report being received would use their best endeavours to have the work pushed along as speedily as possible. He announced that the portfolios as mentioned were proviw sionah and the others were subject to change, and added that the Financial Statement would be made wjrthin $ fprtnight. This Day In the House yesterday m reply to a question put, Mr Stout said that the Financial and Public Works Statements wouH be brought down within a fortningbt nnd m reply to another question put by Mr Guinness, who asked if it was true that the Governor had promised a dissolution m the event of this Government not standing. Mr Stout seid that it would . be most irregular for him to state what transphed between him and the i Governor. j Repl*ying to Mr Bevan, Mr Ballance | said the Government had not yet bad time to consider what it would do m the matter ol providing for the ©lection .of Waste Land Boards. Replying to Mr Moss, Sir Julius Yogel said the Government would biin> m a bill for the payment of members providing for the amount being paid annaully, and not as at present sessionary. Replying to Mr Levestam, Mr Bai* lance said the cost of arming the Volunteers with Martini Henri instead of Snider rifles would be £10,000, and the Goyerument could not see their way to spend this amount at the present time. In tre House to-day Mr Johnston gave notice that to-morrow he would ask the Premier when he would move for the appointment of a committee to enquire into the best route for the North Island Main Trunk Line. Mr Shephard gave notice that tomorrow \e would move that Mr \V , J. jj'cew^rd' be appointed ' Chairman of Committees.
